Achievements

The Spices Research Centre has so far developed 57 cultivars on 27 spice crops, which are currently cultivated at the farmer’s level. Moreover, 66 more advanced technologies including production technology, soil and water management, insect and disease pest management, and post-harvest technology have been invented to increase production. Apart from this, more research activities are going on to verify the impact of the research at the socio-economic, marketing and value chain, farmer level. In 1995-96, the production of spices in 1.36 lakh hectares of land in this country was 3.00 lakh tones, but currently, the production of spices in 4.29 lakh hectares is 35.93 lakh tones. In comparison, the total production of spice crops has now increased by about 11.98 times.
